Adding Value

Group organisers have different strengths and weaknesses. As such, instead of following step-by-step instructions, an excellent mentor should explore which ways of adding value are most useful for their mentees, and then double down on those.

During your first meeting of continued mentorship, we suggest you go through each of the sources of value below and ask your mentee for an initial guess of which ones they’d personally benefit most from. Incorporate those into your mentorship meetings!

A caveat: it can be hard to know how valuable something is before trying it. Check in with your mentee after a few weeks to see if they’d like to try some areas they’d initially dismissed and debug any that aren’t working.
